Day Nursery Baby and Toddler Unit
The
Baby/Toddler Unit at Silverdawn children's day nursery is situated
at the rear of the main building. It houses six 0-2 year olds
per day with our two qualified members of
staff.
The unit has all its own resources and toys and a small kitchen
to prepare any feeds. As throughout the whole nursery, the baby
unit has under floor heating to ensure the children are both warm
and comfortable whilst learning & developing their basic skills.
The staff in the baby room plan a day filled with exciting activities
for the children to fit in with their individual routines. They
work towards the Birth to Three Matters Framework and focus the activities around a theme and the children will paint,
glue, bake and generally explore the theme. Through observations, assessments and individually appropriate activities, the children are encouraged
to achieve the outcome of the framework which are to become:
- A Strong Child
- A Skilful Communicator
- A Competent Learner
- A Healthy Child
The children are encouraged to develop at their own pace and all their work is either displayed,
sent home, or kept in their individual progress files. The staff
will adapt the activities around each child’s routine. The
children are encouraged to rest as and when they need to in our
small rest area which is surrounded by a curtain to ensure they
are not disturbed by children who are not resting.
On nice days the children will go out and play in our playground,
using our numerous bikes, cars, bats and balls etc. The staff
also take the children out for small walks to the local park,
in our double buggies; an extra member of staff is also taken
on these outings. The staff keep a progress file on each child’s
development, noting all of their significant achievements, such
as sitting up and crawling etc. This file is available for parents
to see at their request. The atmosphere in the baby unit is always
relaxed and calm with a great sense of fun and exploration.
