The Tigers - Day Nursery Care for 3 to 5 Year Olds
At
Silverdawn children's day nursery our
3-5 year olds have been named ‘The Tigers’. This group
is also based in the main building of the day nursery along with
the Tweenies.
Like the Tweenies they have key workers that plan and prepare
their daily activities. The staff plan the activities for each
month around a particular topic. Each topic and each individual
activity is carefully planned to work towards different stages
of the Stepping Stones, ensuring that over a period of twelve
months every aspect of learning has been covered.
Each
activity is adapted to each child’s individual abilities
and closely evaluated to assess whether it has adequately covered
the desired aspect of learning. All of the activities are documented and are available for parents to see at their request. The activities
are displayed on a weekly basis in our entrance hall for parents
to see, all parents are welcome to contribute any ideas or bring
in any resources for our topics.
As children join the Tiger group A Record of Achievement is issued.
This is initially sent home for the parents to complete with their
child details such as, ‘My Friends’, ‘My Favourite
Family’ etc. This is then a working document which is added
to by our staff as and when significant
achievements are made. Art work and photo’s are also gathered
in this file.
The Tigers complete tasks to encourage their independence, on
a daily basis, such as, self registration, setting
the table, pouring their own drinks. The children are also
encouraged to select
the toys that they wish to play with and to tidy them away. The
staff actively encourage the children to learn and develop new
skills in all areas of the curriculum as well as more social skills
required at home and in everyday life.
As it is throughout the day nursery, close
parental liaison is very important with our pre-school children,
to ensure that we are meeting the needs of both the parent and
child in preparing and equipping them for their school life. The
atmosphere throughout the whole nursery is a relaxed, yet enthusiastic
one.
